Cruise Facilities

Portland Port is perfectly located on the south coast of England offering a gateway to some of Britain's most stunning, fascinating and unique inland attractions that would be ideal for day call visits for the discerning cruise customer.

Portland Port lies in the sweep of Weymouth Bay amidst an impressive coastline of outstanding panoramic views of the Dorset World Heritage coast where market towns are linked by country lanes and hedgerows to picture-postcard villages, each with its church, manor house, thatched cottages, farms and village pub. This presents a rich and exciting range of shore excursions for passengers to enjoy including the UNESCO world heritage sites of Stonehenge, Bath and the Jurassic Coast, numerous stately homes and castles, country gardens and golf courses. In fact some thing to suit everyone's tastes.

Portland is well placed for all manner of cruises including Round Britain, Iberian Peninsular, Western Mediterranean, English Channel and transit cruises between the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Northern Europe. Whatever the itinerary, Portland Port's proximity to the channel shipping lanes makes it an ideal inclusion.

Access to Portland

By road Portland Port is accessed through Weymouth via the main A354 trunk road. Work has recently started to improve this link in time for the 2012 Olympic Games. With other regional improvements access to the M27 / M3 motorway to London and South East England and the M5 motorway to the West, the Midlands and South Wales is becoming ever easier. By rail two scheduled trains an hour run between London and Weymouth, or why not consider running a charter train directly from London or indeed from the main London airports. Access by air via the UK's main hub airport, London Heathrow, is a little over two and half hours drive time. With its global links passengers can access cruises from Portland from anywhere in the world. Alternatively the regional airports at Bournemouth, Southampton, Exeter and Bristol are all within two hours of the port offering domestic and European connections.

Passenger Terminal and Facilities

Portland Port has developed a dedicated cruise passenger terminal and port facilities that will appeal to both passengers and cruise operators.

As part of its commitment to the cruise industry, Portland Port developed the Britannia Passenger Terminal that was officially opened by His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh on 14th July 1999 and in 2005 has undergone extensive refurbishment. This facility is suitable for all passenger handling and processing.

The passenger handling capacity was extended during 2001.

All Passenger Terminal Services are controlled and co-ordinated by Portland Port utilising experienced efficient and friendly operators. Some of the services and facilities included are:
