Portland Port hosts educational to show tour operators what the local area can offer cruise passengers

In 2014, Portland Port organised a hugely successful cruise educational event which allowed local attractions to meet with tour operators.

The cruise business continues to grow at Portland Port so last month they held their second cruise educational event.

The port invited representatives from tour operators that have been involved with the cruise ships at Portland and hosted them for two days.  They were shown around the port, taken to various locations that might be of interest to cruise passengers and took part in a speed dating styled networking event.

The networking event allowed fifteen local attractions and businesses to speak with each representative for a set amount of time.  This gave them the opportunity to show the tour operators what they can offer and discuss how they can work together to come up with an attractive option to cruise lines.

General Manager – Commercial, Ian McQuade commented that ‘There was a lot of interest from businesses wanting to be involved in the event and those that attended found it extremely useful.  Dorset and its surrounding area has lots to offer cruise passengers and the port hopes that these events will help to give passengers a unique experience when going ashore at Portland.’
