Disney Cruise Lines to Call at Portland Port in 2017

Disney Cruise Lines have recently announced that they are to visit Portland in the 2017 cruise season. The anticipated arrival of the Disney Magic next year is news that demonstrates the progress Portland Port continues to make in the cruise industry.

The Disney Magic, at over 300m long and accommodating in excess of 2,800 passengers, will be the biggest cruise ship to ever visit Portland. She is scheduled to call into Portland during May 2017 in what is expected to be another record breaking year for the port. Since the cruise lines launch in 1998, Disney Cruise Line has established itself as a leader in the cruise industry, providing a setting where families can reconnect, adults can recharge and children can experience all Disney has to offer. Ian McQuade, General Manager – Commercial at Portland Port said,

“this is a major coup for Portland Port. Securing a call from such a globally renowned and world recognised brand really is great recognition of all the hard work put in by the port to establish itself as a destination of choice for the cruise industry”.

Due to the nature of Disney’s customers and the size of the vessels in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, Mr. McQuade is optimistic that this cruise call could be the beginning of a long relationship between the port and Disney.

“The Disney Magic will be the first cruise ship of over 300m in length to call at Portland Port and we do not expect her to be the last. The recently announced cruise berth extension will allow us to handle ships in excess of 340m long alongside and with more and more cruise ships over 300m long being delivered to the global fleet we anticipate this to be the first of many.”

Portland and its surrounding areas is already a popular destination both nationally and across the cruise industry offering a wide range of attractions to cater for all tastes.
