Safety information
Please familiarise yourself with the safety information below before going out on the water.
Seasonal Exclusion Zone
In force usually between the months of June to September, off Hamm Beach near to Billy Winter’s Café by order of General Direction No 1 of 2024, which is a byelaw.
It is demarked by a physical line of red and yellow inflatable fender buoys attached with white rope which is impassable. It is put in place to protect swimmers and other water users from craft travelling at high speeds during the busiest times of year. The buoys are highly visible, and mariners are encouraged to give these buoys a wide berth.
Offenders transiting into the area may be prosecuted.

Fast-moving water
The water moving under the Ferrybridge in and out of the Fleet Lagoon can be fast moving and catch users unaware. Be cautious when passing the ‘New Channel’ and be prepared for delayed fast water movement after high and low water times.
Consider carrying a knife, taking some spare downhaul/outhaul rope with you, maybe a spare universal joint, along with some sail tape in a waterproof bag so you can make on the water repairs if needed.
It is highly advisable to learn a few self-rescue methods and even a full on the water de-rig where possible.
