TRAINEE VESSEL SERVICES SUPPORT

Applications are invited to fill the above full-time permanent position within the Landside Services Department.

Reporting to the General Manager (Landside), supporting the Landside team, the Trainee Vessel Services Support  will be responsible for day to day arrangements of services required by visiting vessels including planning activities, arranging services with appropriate contractors, processing and filing of tickets and landside generated paperwork, use a purchase order system to create and issue authorised purchase orders, maintain excel spreadsheets, ensuring correct names of vessels are present on associated software packages and completion of Vessel Invoicing Documentation.  There are other processes within the Landside Department that require managing including controlling access to landside key cabinets to ensure all keys are returned and to assist in creating policies, procedures and manuals when necessary. 

Applicants need to possess good organisational, time management and communications skills and show attention to detail. Computer literate with a sound knowledge of MS Office and accurate keyboard skills, applicants should also be able demonstrate initiative and solution finding, adaptability and the ability to work under pressure.

A training and development programme will be undertaken to ensure the successful applicant obtains full qualification.

Marine Department

CASUAL EMPLOYMENT - MARINE DEPARTMENT – DECK CREW

Portland Harbour Authority operates several vessels, including Pilot Boats, Tugs, workboats and a harbour patrol RIB. Applications are invited from suitable personnel from a marine related background to join the Harbour Authority’s casual roster for work within the Marine Department.

Ideally the applicant should be in possession of a first aid Certificate, however all applications will be considered with regard to deck crew on the Port’s vessels.

Police & Security Department

CASUAL SECURITY STAFF

Applications are invited from suitable people to join the Harbour Authority’s casual roster for work within the Security Department.

The Port has a fast-growing cruise operation and always requires extra security staff to assist, especially during the cruise season, usually between April and October.  The ship visits can fall on a weekday or a weekend, with the length of the call varying in duration on the day.  Other duties can include ship gangway security and vessel protection, which would be specifically suited to applicants who favour night working.

All roles can be physically demanding, and applicants will have a degree of flexibility with regards to availability and working times.

A SIA Level 2 Qualification would be desirable but not essential.

Applicants with any relevant experience will be considered with any appropriate training given as required.

A full UK driving licence is required for this role.
